the new mayor

Esther Manheimer will be sworn in as Asheville's mayor around 90 minutes from now. Here are some photos from the past couple of years.

bellamy

The ACT's Sunday piece on Terry Bellamy got me thinking. It's tough to be a politician with journos in your face all the time. And that's as it should be. But I feel pretty fortunate to have been around for some interesting moments over the last few years: I was there when Bellamy announced her run for Congress, when she led the charge of the city's lawsuit against the state, and when she told us she wouldn't run for reelection. She's been mayor during all of my political coverage, and almost the entire time I've lived in Asheville. It's going to be weird seeing a different face at the center of the dais.

So, on her last night in office, here are a few of my favorites. Good luck, Madam Mayor. Oh, and nice tattoo.
